Slowing down to speed up

In just a couple of days we will be a month out from Ren’s 1st birthday. Much has changed and Ren in doing things every day that continue to amaze and inspire. Our team of nurses and therapists has stabilized in a way that makes life feel much less hectic, which has given us the opportunity to pick up the pace and pressure with the things that are going to help Ren thrive. The consistency in care that we have seen in recent weeks has allowed us to begin looking into things like heading to the neuromuscular clinic in Houston later this month, to put together a strong team of experienced professionals that will help address all of Ren’s needs. Our first year has been about keeping Ren healthy and out of the hospital, but now we are focusing on getting our guy the best care available in order to help him reach his goals and milestones. As a soon to be father, I had visions of dragging my son behind my bike in his pull-behind. From the first day, it was obvious that this wasn’t something that wasn’t going to happen any time soon, for a variety of reasons. With longer walks, multiple seating/transportation options, and Ren’s daily improvements, this is now a goal that I can work towards and look forward to. Ren is showing great improvement with his swallowing, his heat intolerance, and stamina while in different seating systems and we are getting our first tastes of doing typical family things. It defnitely feels like we are turning a corner and starting a new chapter as a family.
