Meds, baths and friends

Today  Ren’s IV was removed because he is continuing to get everything he needs from his momma. Today Ren had a new visitor which is always excitng for all of us because until we are able to take him home, we have to rely on hospital visits to meet our awesome little dude.   Afterward, we were able to give him a bath which he wasn’t the biggest fan of, but at least he no longer smells like a ham sandwich. As he is getting older, he is more alert and for longer periods when he is awake. We have decided to try the medication glycoprrolate as way to control Ren’s oral secretions in hopes of removing the ventilator tube again once it takes effect. It was determined that his problem without the tube on Friday was caused by an abundance of secretions accumulating and blocking his airway, so if we can keep it clear, he should have success breathing without being intubated. We are anxious to get the tube out as he is much more comfortable without it, but we also don’t want to risk another event. Today has been a pretty quiet day and Ren is currently sleeping inside of Devona’s shirt while she dozes in and out herself.

  3. Congratulations Will and Devona on the birth of Ren! The little guy is having some challenges, but modern medical technology is miraculous. My fourth child (Eric) spent the first two months of his life in the NICU, and over the first two years of his life he had seven operations, was hooked up to a machine 24/7/365, and had “numerous” ambulance rides. Now that he is a healthy 16 year old, I show the pictures and videos of his infancy challenges to his little girlfriends to embarrass him. Stay positive!

  5. I would like to thank you Devona, Will, and Ren for sharing this blog with us. Ren! Such a sweet name. He is so loved by the best couple ever and is welcomed to this world. You are already aware, but I would emphasize that you guys have all supports from your family and friends who are following this blog. I can’t want to hold his tiny hand and introduce myself as his mom’s twin sister.
